Did really little Swing. Most of the GUI applications I wrote was with JavaFX.

swing is an old library & if you new in the gui application you can start with java fx instead
there is the new boston tutorial about javafx on youtube, i learned a lot from it

the docs is good & it helped me a lot when i had trouble with my first app, but for start i think vedio tutorial will be better
