Its because you are doing it wrong. When you get asked something then its too late you should already have done it. Its your responsibility to remember it next time.
Answer the question before they had to ask it. If I have to ask you how I look then I know you'll lie to me because you are just saying what I want to hear. If i have to ask you to wash the dishes for me then it is too late because you were supposed to offer to do it for me or just did it.
It is fine you can still redeem yourself just remember next time what I asked of you because that is what I expect of you.

Just do something for her that shows you like her. Literally anything good works even just a card or something.

Sometimes its ok to be a goof and other times you should not.
2.2. Status
You do not have to be the best. There is nothing more annoying than when guys try to show off.
2.3. Approachable
You should be available to talk to. If everything revolves around you she cannot share her feelings so you need to be open to listen even though you probably cannot understand it.
