to enable machines to perform tasks that were once thought to only be performed by humans. It has many applications. e.g. teachers currently struggle with their workload of marking students work and keeping track of individual students progress. but a digital tutor on the otherhand can keep track of individual students and tailorise lessons based on their level of understanding using machine learning without any complaints of workload.
