drawbox() function from grasshopper

hello so i just finished the first leason in grasshopper and i'm very confused the first thing they teach you is the drawbox() function and i tried it out in the sololearn node.js IDE (i don't know if it's called an IDE) but anyways i tried it out and it didn't work! so my first question is, can you make custom functions in programming languages?? and how? is this some hidden variable that they used i'm sorry but i'm really new to coding and it's just confusing to me

Yes! Grasshopper is really a great application! drawBox() is not a inbuilt function of JavaScript, grasshopper has this function made by Devlopers of Google, at last you will learn about d3 library and they also use this to make your learning interesting and all would like to play with graphics than with number! As Jay Matthews you can use canvas to define your drawbox()! Hope it's helpful! Happy Learning 🙂👍🏻
