HP Laptop Hardware - Whats your opinion?

Hello People, I have the following hardware HP laptop with: - Windows 8.1 - Intel Core I5-4210U @1.70Ghz - 8gb ram - Geforce 820m 2gb - 750 Gb Hd Already formatted a couple times using the HP software. Its about 6 years old laptop and running a bit slow but looking at the specs of current chromebooks I believe if I get rid of this Windows and all that pre installed HP software crap that comes with it. Install a clean Linux distro like Ubuntu Cinnamon or Mint in it, this hardware will do a lot better. Whats your opinion? Should I do it or just buy a chromebook? Main uses are virtual studio code a bit of graphic/web design with Gimp. Any good tutorials on how to completely erase the HD to do a clean Linux install? Thanks!

Your laptop is not running slow because of memory. Instead it is because of the fact that your processor is too old and worn off to handle more powerful tasks. So formatting will not help. But I think using linux should help you.
