Lol, I realize all of what you are saying. I just want to know someone's point of view, or experience with app development. how long has it taken to develop an app? have you ever had an published? DO you have an app published? I guess I wasn't specific enough.

Published, no. I haven't made anything worth the investment. I believe it is roughly $25 fee to start putting things on the play store.
How long it takes depends on a number of things. size of the project. your skill level. etc.
I made an app this morning, it took me about 2 hours, but it is very simple. It calculates Quarterback passer ratings for both NFL and NCAA. I saved time by writing the methods that calculate the ratings on my phone while I watched tv last night so overall, probably close to 4 hours all together. Now it is full functional. I will probably spend another hour or 2 tweaking how it looks and making a proper icon for it.
Most of the things I make don't take very long because I focus on my personal need. function > form. Which works because that's what they generally are. Tools for my personal use.
If I was going to publish it, I would probably double the time invested. add more functionality and definitely improve it visually.

The first Android app I made.. It is a color picker, but I learned a lot making it.
